Car Tales: Era-Defining, Ferrari F355 GTS F1

Ferrari F355’s first arrived in 1994. The last model to be hand-built at Ferrari’s Modena factory, the F355 certainly was one of the last Ferraris of the classic era.

Its beautiful, bolstered appearance symbolized the end of not only the twentieth century, but the end of a millennium. And it was a fitting tribute to the end of a century that had seen Ferrari established in Maranello in Italy in 1947.

Produced from May of 1994 until 1999, the car is a heavily revised Ferrari 348 with notable exterior and performance changes. Design emphasis for the F355 was placed on significantly improved performance – it has a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds – as well as drivability across a wide range of speeds and in such different environments as low-speed city traffic – a sign of the times that Ferrari certainly was moving with.

F355s have played significant parts in notable movies. In the 1995 James Bond film Goldeneye, femme fatale Xenia Onatopp – a fighter pilot and assassin who crushes her enemies with her thighs – races in a Ferrari F355.
Meanwhile, in the 1996 action film The Rock, an FBI agent commandeers a Ferrari F355 and pursues an escaped prisoner, who is driving a Humvee, through the streets of San Francisco.
In case you have dreams of taking part in a similar race, at Beverly Hills Car Club right now we have just the thing you need, a highly desirable 1997 Ferrari F355 FI. The F355 was the last in the series of mid-engine Ferrari models with the Flying Buttress rear window, a lineage going back to the 1965 Dino 206 GT, unveiled at the Paris Auto Show.
At launch in 1994, the only model available was the Berlinetta. The Spider (convertible version), and the GTS (targa top model) were introduced in 1995.
The GTS model was based on the Berlinetta but offered a removable ‘targa-style’ hardtop roof, which could be stored behind the seats. Other specifications were identical to the Berlinetta. A total of 2,577 GTS models were produced, with 2,048 delivered with the 6-speed manual transmission and another 529 with the F1 transmission.

Again, the F1 transmission adorns the model that we have – in other words, it is a Ferrari 355 GTS F1, increasing its rarity value. It was in 1997 that the Formula One-style electrohydraulic-operated automated manual paddle-shift transmission was introduced: the cars equipped with this transmission were called 355 F1.
At Beverly Hills Car Club our low-mileage 1998 Ferrari F355 GTS F1 has a mere 21,666 miles on the odometer. And it is finished in its spectacular factory color Rosso Borchetta, complemented with a tan interior.

To further enhance the exterior, this F355 is equipped with a removable roof panel, a targa, giving you the option of enjoying the open air on a warm day.
This exquisite supercar is a true embodiment of luxury and performance, boasting a sleek and timeless design that is sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
This Pininfarina-designed sports car is powered by a fuel-injected V8 engine that is paired with – as we said – a paddle-shifted automated transmission. Additional equipment includes quad exhaust outlets, Veglia instrumentation, four-wheel disc brakes, retractable headlights, side marker lights, leather case tool kit, 18-inch alloy wheels, and Michelin tires. Featured amenities include air conditioning, power windows, dual-side rearview mirrors, center console, analog clock, door pockets, Dolby stereo, and sun visors.
This F355 GTS comes with a clean CARFAX report, showcasing its consistent mileage between May 1998 through September 2024. In addition, service receipt copies are included that total more than $23,000. Furthermore, a major service was completed at a cost of $15,554.43 only 1,308 miles ago, ensuring that this Ferrari is in peak condition and ready to deliver an unparalleled driving experience to its next owner. Italian classic cars are constantly rising in value: this is an excellent opportunity to acquire this iconic supercar that is mechanically sound.
Like those fanatical fans of Italian soccer, Ferrari has its ‘ultras’. Arguably the car brand with the most famous supporters is Ferrari.
Renowned owners of the F355 include basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, who bought one mid-way through his tenure with the Lakers in the late 1990s, at the peak of his career.

To accommodate Shaq’s over 7-feet frame, his 1998 Spider underwent a significant overhaul, including a custom hood, relocated fuel tank, and body modifications to better suit his size.
Other famed owners have included renowned car enthusiast and Jamiroquai band leader Jay Kay, who had a racing-focused F355 Challenge. Motoring journalist, Top Gear presenter and TV farmer Jeremy Clarkson, who owned a GTS and knows a thing or two about cars. And, most impressively, seven-time Formula One racing champion Michael Schumacher, who drove for Ferrari during the 1990s and 2000s, and who owned a GTS…
…at a time when he could have had any Ferrari he wanted.
